Saint Lucia

The topic of my article today is Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia is an island too, at the South of Martinique. Since 1979, Saint Lucia  became an independent state of the Commonwealth of Nations associated with the United Kingdom. Its capital is Castries. The Official language is English, and the island as a local language too : St Lucian Creole  French. Saint Lucia has  173,765 inhabitants.

Right now i'll tell you about Saint Lucia Culture. First we'll talk about Food. Its national dish is : green figs and saltfish. But They have also typical dishes as : Macaroni pie, stew chicken , rice and peas, but also hearty  soups made with fresh locally producted vegetables. As typical food there are : coconut milk, celery, thyme and scotch bonnet peppers.

In a second part i'm going to talk to you about Music and Dance . About Music, Saint Lucia has several music genres as : Calypso, Soca, Dancehall, Reggae, Compas, Zouk and Salsa. Saint Lucia National Dance is the Kwadril. Since 1991, and in May, Saint Lucia hosts the Jazz Festival, an event internationally known and the biggest festival of the year .

We will finish this article with Sports and Literature. The famous sport in St Lucia is Cricket. The Windward Islands cricket team includes Saint Lucian players and plays in the West Indies regional tournament. Famous Players of This Sport are Darren Sammer, the first St Lucian to represent the West Indies and a woman, Nadine George, who had an international career from 2003 to 2008.
Concerning Literature, one poet and playwright that won the Literature Nobel Prize in 1992, Derek Walcott, is from St Lucia. He is known for his poem, Omeros, written in 1990. He also won in 2011 The T.S. Eliot Prize for his book of poetry White Egrets.
